Mackage Spring 2015: All the photos from the runway show and after party at Toronto Fashion Week
has been heavy on the leather front, thanks to an extra chill in the
air, but before we could get too caught up in dreading the cold
months ahead of us, we were reminded that we won’t have to give up our
beloved leather once the weather warms up again, thanks to the Mackage Spring 2015 show. Inspired by their travels, Montreal-based duo Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy showed
everything from classic interpretations of leatherwear to bold pieces
not for the faint of heart. From neon fringe skirts, to perforated
leather dresses, and laser-cut and mesh detailing on shorts and sleeves,
the appeal of multi-texture is hard to resist, especially when
contrasted with breezy chiffon tunics.
While leather on leather (on leather on leather…) came in unusual forms, like wrap skirts and hot pink hot pants, it was also showcased in more traditional pieces, like hooded bombers, motorcycle jackets and as an accent to classic trenches. While last spring, Dahan and Elfassy seemed to be enamoured with bright shades of orange paired with subdued olive green, this season, yellow, electric blue and highlighter pink were welcome—and borderline hypnotizing—additions to the outerwear’s darker aesthetic. With British-born DJ Chelsea Leyland spinning tracks from the likes of Ace of Base, and models wearing a bright pink but worn-in lip colour and hair tied into a messy low knot, the look and feel was low-key and effortlessly cool.
Later that night, we made our way to the Mackage x Notable after party, held at EFS on Toronto’s King Street. Leyland took her spot behind the turntables and guests like Notable.ca’s CEO Julian Brass, Essie Canada’s lead nail artist Rita Remark and Jay Strut took in the sounds until the wee hours of the morning. Even some Toronto Raptors showed up! Point guard Greivis Vásquez was on hand at the Mackage x Notable after party, but no word on how being 6-foot-5 has affected his search for the perfect leather jacket.
